Post Olympics, there are some campaigns I’m sad to still see on tv like the McDonald’s youth athletic team commercial. But others I’m happy are still in circulation, like the Tourism British Columbia spot. This beautiful campaign features the message of “You Gotta Be Here” and showcases breathtaking scenes of BC as well as the province’s native celebrities

Recently I’ve started receiving the Ad Age Global E-News. It’s fun to read what’s happening in our industry in other parts of the world. One headline caught my attention this week, Red Cross Stories of Hope. It featured Leo Burnett Iberia’s opening of a pair of stores for the Red Cross in Portugal and Spain.

While checking out at target some cereal boxes caught my eye that didn’t seem to fit today’s normal design standards. Then I realized that the Lucky Charms box was graced with one of their retro designs from years past.

The current economy has brought a lot of hardships to the advertising industry, challenging us like never before. We’ve had our toys taken away. Our budgets have been slashed. We’ve lost clients. Seen good friends let go. We’ve been asked to work longer…for less money. But despite all of these negatives, I believe our industry will emerge much stronger, in the long run, because of what it’s going through.

To all you regular readers, you know that I am completely in love with Starbucks! My radar always points to Starbucks in a headline when scanning the news. For a while, the news hasn’t been great. Losing profit margins and closing stores have been hot topics surrounding Starbucks for the past few years.

We had an interesting visitor at EXIT this week. Being the open-minded, creative sort, we always encourage drop-ins from clients, friends, family, and vendors, and when we get a random visitor, it’s even more fun. Without going into too much detail, this woman had created a homemade product she wanted us to look at.

The Moment of Truth (or lack of): A large client asks to make a significant change to our work that will make the strategy much less effective. Though grossly simplified, this is, unfortunately, a rather familiar situation in our industry. A situation that I believe many advertising professionals deal with dishonestly. They smile and make the client’s change. Not because they enjoy deceiving clients, but because they don’t want to risk bruising the relationship. Because it’s all about relationships, right?

The compassion and generosity displayed following the earthquakes in Haiti has been remarkable. We’ve seen this before many times – a natural or man-made disaster inspires the very best from inside us. But, for me, Haiti feels different. In large part, social media is to thank for its uniqueness. Social media has given us instant updates.

Here’s a tip for small businesses out there. Instead of trying to be better than your competition, figure out how you can be different from your competition.
We take pride in being a small firm that brings its clients big results. Now, in our 8th year, our results are getting some big recognition! EXIT was voted the state’s Best Advertising and Public Relations Firm by Arkansas Business readers in its Best of Biz 2010. Big news we’re very excited about! News we know was made possible by our tremendous clients. We work with companies that demand differentiation and expect greater ROI from their marketing efforts. Thank you for pushing us to be better.
Friends and associates we follow that you should too.
What inspires us to develop great work.
